Understanding Generative AI: Opportunities and Risks

My interpretation of Generative AI:

The in thing now on the news.

When you see a funny video or image that you know the content are impossible and unreal.

We welcome and enjoy the great technology evaluation. It helps to lighten the repetitive chaos and improve the living of human beings. Nonetheless, we also need to consider the downside of any new technologies. There bound to have someone that misused the technology to their own advantages.

Same for Generative AI, its evil twin is Deepfake.

It is often seen on the Facebook crochet group that someone posts a beautiful crocheted doll or animal. They ask if anyone can give the crochet pattern. They are fake and generated by AI. AI generated crochet. Or this cute little dog Amigurumi.

Another new technology emerged that disrupt multiple industry that transform their use cases. Take the example for the crocheted dog Amigurumi, would that endangered the crochet artist designer? One look you can see that it is a fake design. But people like me want to become great crochet designers. They would find this either inspiring or threatening.

My thoughts with every new technology emerge will attract good and evil creativity, provided you know how to use it. More than 20 years ago, I first learned Knowledge Engineering. At that time, AI technology aimed to reduce repetitive work for specialists like Doctors. This allowed them to focus more on innovation and creativity in discovering new health science. These advancements would help human beings. The introduction of AI technology to Doctors was not well received. Some doctors are too proud to think that AI would take over (some of) their jobs. The myths was on how a machine take over a human being mind thinking.

Benefits

I always appreciate and welcome new technology every time they launches to the world. The new technology is usually build with the intention to help to improve the living lifestyle of human.

I am proud to still be here on this new technology world, with Big data, Data Science, Generative AI involving and improve the livings of human beings:

• Learn to appreciate new arts generated from some mathematical model call Large Language Model – LLM.

• Assists software developers by using generative AI-powered assistants. These include Amazon Q Developer, Github Copilot, ChatGPT, DeepCode, and more. These tools help software developers do their work better.
• AI robots replace chaotic work like cleaning. This helps reduce the need for repetitive jobs. It brings more quality to the work scope. This attracts workers to focus on jobs that offer more value.

Threats

But a small group of human beings often misuse technology for personal gain. The invention of the internet intended to bring humans closer. It was meant to share information, not to steal and hack into individual privacy. The first intention of explosive weapon was almost exclusively in fireworks and signal and not for killing purpose.

Out in the world, the senior citizens are worried that would disrupt their jobs. The Government has taken steps to give Skill Future funds to citizen. These funds encourage nations to learn new skills in this millennium world. They aim to raise awareness. At the same time, they motivate people to acquire new skills. These skills improve their adaptability to this changing world.

The world now has to adopt new policies on the owners’ rights. AI machines have created some new songs. They have also created new arts. Are we allow to own make copies for the new creations? Should the owner of the new art approach the Data Sciences team?
