Surviving a Typhoon Holiday in Taipei

It continues to rain on the third day of my holiday trip in Taipei. Are you curious about what I did during the Typhoon day in Taipei? Then refer to my What to do in Taipei During Typhoon.

I had initially planned for a 7 days holiday in Taipei. Just when I was happily waiting to execute my plan, things changes. Typhoon has invaded to Taipei and ruin my holiday plan. What to do next?

Well nothing beat deserving a good holiday break from your normal life routine. A short break from your daily routine helps to charge up your mind, body and soul. I will definitely not allow the weather to spoil my mood for this holiday. So what is the definition of a well deserve good holiday?

Plan To Do in Taipei

My definition will be: To eat what I planned to eat, to play or experience what I planned. I would expect my holiday will give me the chance to experience activities in a new environment.

You probably think I can do all kinds of activities in my own country too. So what will be the difference doing in other country? You can eat Taiwan Big Fried Chicken chop or taste 蚝仔面线 in Singapore too.

The feelings and tastes change when you queue in a narrow alley. You wait to buy that bowl of specialties. It is made by the seller who has consistently made and sold it for the past 20 (or more) years.

You will definitely find that same dish in that same alley. It will still be selling if you visit them a couple of years later.

In a city area that I lived in, inflation rate had turn rocket high and rental fee kept going up. You will have less chance seeing that same store you have visited early this year again.

Other than to eat, my definition to visit and play will be:

a. Visit Museums,

b. Cycle at seaside,

新竹17公里海岸线

c. Trek in mountain,

d. Visit bookstores and buy Chinese books,

e. Spend quality time reading a book while drinking a cup of tea/coffee, in a cafe

f. Visiting old places that I had spend time with friends and families during my past trips.

Execution of Plan and Adopt Changes

Just like every project plan I have managed, not all tasks can handle and execute according to plan. You just need to know the risks, weigh the outcomes, mitigate them, and rank the tasks suitably.

I checked the weather forecast. I reshuffled the activities that required sunshine days for execution. These include things like cycling and trekking in the mountain. I also rank the activities I plan to absolutely do. It is OK to skip the activity if I can’t do it due to something. I also added new activities I want to explore because of new situation occurs.

I found a new eating places by tracking some tourists along the way.

Due to the weather, I have to arrange all my cycling and trekking activities on three consecutive days. To guarantee I still have energy to continue enjoying my trip, I have shorten one of the cycling path. I canceled part of the Museum visit as one visit should be good enough for me. I did this because of the limited time.

I just like solo traveling. I can easily change my route according to my likes. No need to feel guilty and no need to please anyone.

And be happy!
